Charter for non-francophone parents
Your child—and maybe yourself—does not speak French, yet you have chosen the French and International School of Guangzhou (FISG) for its excellence and openness on the world. That is why we want to thank you for trusting us in this respect.
To make this new education plainly successful, it is vital that all participants of this educational community commit, teachers as well as parents.
As a parent you have a decisive role to play. This charter will guide you in this respect, but will also explain what the FISG implements in order to help you child adapt in the quickest possible way.
Intensive learning path into the French language
All of our non-French speaking students newly enrolled into our school are offered an intensive learning path into the French language through a minimum of four hours per week of FLE (French as a Second Language) classes. This intensive course aims to deliver tangible and attainable results and for the student to become an A1 French speaker according to the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
|Listening||Reading||Spoken interaction||Spoken Production||I can write a short, simple postcard, for example sending holiday greetings. I can fill in forms with personal details, for example entering my name, nationality and address on a hotel registration form.
|I can recognize familiar words and very basic phrases concerning myself, my family and immediate concrete surroundings when people speak slowly and clearly.||I can understand familiar names, words and very simple sentences, for example on notices and posters or in catalogs.||I can interact in a simple way provided the other person is prepared to repeat or rephrase things at a slower rate of speech and help me formulate what I’m trying to say. I can ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.||I can use simple phrases and sentences to describe where I live and people I know.|
These classes are taught by our qualified FLE and FLsco teachers.
What happens next ?
Every single child learns at their own pace. Therefore every student has a learning path that is best suited for their own needs tailor made for them throughout the entirety of their school years. To succeed in this task we use multiple proven methods : FLE classes, APC (Additional curricular activities), PPRE (Personalized learning path to educational success). Adding AES (After-school activities) is an excellent way to further boost the communication and social skills of your child.
